Dr. Aifra Ahmed & Ahmar Shehwaar
Ealier the Mushaera began with the presentations by two local Diaspora poets, Ahmar Shehwaar and Dr. Aifra Ahmed.
Dr. Aifra Ahmed mesmerized the guests with her graphic poem Time of Death which was based on her experience at a doctor.
Ahmar Shehwaar was next to thrill the audience with his poetic renditions.
Ahmar Shehwaar, a Diaspora Urdu poet, originally started poetry in Ghazal Genre about 26 years ago. He was recognized in poetry circles as emerging new voice in Karachi. In 2000, he immigrated to USA and was occupied with career and did not write much.
In 2006 he started writing poetry again and has established himself as a respected name in poetry. His primary focus is ghazal but also ventures out in nazm genra occasionally.
His poetry reflects romantic, social and religious issues of present day societies.
