AMU Alumni Association N. California’s International Mushaera

Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association of Northern America celebrated Sir Syed Day 2019 on November 17, 2019 at the India Community Center, Milpitas CA.
The program included fund raising for its charity programs in India and also an International Mushaera with participating poets from India
, Pakistan and the US.
The poets included: Pirzada Qasim (Pakistan), Javed Akhtar (India), A. M. Turaz (India), Sarfraz Shahid (Pakistan), Manzar Bhopali (India), Ahmar Shehwaar (Bay Area) and Dr. Aifra Ahmed (Bay Area).
Poet Tashie Zaheer, president of the Urdu Academy of North America, was naanezm-e-mushaera. He specially flew from Phoenix, Arizona to MC the International Mushaera.
It was perhaps one of the best Mushaeras hosted by the AMU Alumni Association as the ICC hall was full to the capacity. All tickets were sold out weeks ago while many people who could not buy any ticket came with the hope that they may find space if anyone ticket holder did not turn up for any reason. However, they were disappointed.
Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui
Dr. Pirzada Qasim (Pen Name), who occupies a very prominent place in the contemporary Urdu poets, chaired the international mushaera.
He captivated the audience with his thought-provoking renditions.
His full name is Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui. He is an eminent person in the field of higher education management in Pakistan and at present serving as Vice Chancellor Ziauddin University, Karachi, Pakistan. He earned his PhD from University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England from the Faculty of Medicine in 1978.
Dr. Pirzada Qasim has served in the capacity of Vice Chancellor in public/private sector Universities of Pakistan for 16 years. Besides being the Vice Chancellor of University of Karachi for 8 years, he was the founding Vice Chancellor of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology, Pakistan.
He has written several books in English and Urdu, including Urdu poetry.
