Urdu Academy presents proverbial Urdu poetry
Urdu Academy Report
The Urdu Academy of North America dedicated the second session of its monthly literary program to the proverbial poetry of Urdu. The event was held on January 15, 2017 at the Chandni Restaurant, Newark CA.
Dr. Ghazala Ansari, who is visiting the Bay Area after a long absence, conducted the program with phenomenal research of proverbial verses of the Urdu poetry.
It was an interactive session. Dr. Ghazala recited half verse (she’r) and invited the audience to complete the verse and tell the name of the poet.
At the end, Nagesh Avadhany was invited to sing Asadullah Ghalib’s popular ghazal – Dil-e-NadaaN Tujhe Hu’a Kiya Hai. Interestingly the whole ghazal is seen as proverbial.
The program ended with a vote of thanks for entrepreneur Syed Sarwat for his patronage of the Urdu language.
