The Urdu Academy of North America’s June 2017 literary session was dedicated to the life and work of a prominent Urdu poet, Zafar Zaidi.
The literary session, held at the Chandni Restaurant, Newark CA on June 18, 2017, was presided over by Dr. Ghazala Ansari a prominent personality of literary circles.
Hatem Rani, a prominent personality of San Francisco Bay Area, was the guest of honor.
Tashie Zaheer, president of the Urdu Academy of North America was MC of the event. He presented a well researched maqala on the life and work of Zafar Zaidi.
Zafar Zaidi was born as Zaki Haider Zaidi was born in 1950 in the district of Unnao, India.
He belonged to a landlord family of Unnao.
He is remembered as Zafar Zaidi, as Zafar was his pen name.
Zakhm Zakhm Ujala is the collection of his poetry.
He died at very a young age of 33 on October 13,1983.
As usual a number of Urdu enthusiasts recited the poetry of Zafar Zaidi: Arshad Rashid, Abdus Sattar Ghazali, Habibullah Khan, Hameed Mirza, Hatim Rani, Khalid Rana, Mukesh Kackar, Nagesh Avadhani, Shan Saigol, Tasadduq Hussain Attari and Zeeshan Haider.
Tashie Zaheer recited a poem of Humaira Rahman to pay homage to Zafar Zaidi.
Nagesh Avadhani, official classical singer of Urdu Academy, amused the audience with his thrilling singing of Zafar Zaidi’s ghazal.
Sweety Sing, perhaps stole the show with her melodious presentation of Zafar Zaidi’s ghazal.
At the end of the program Abdus Sattar Ghazali thanked the guests for attending the literary event in the month of Ramadan. He also thanked Syed Sarwat for patronizing the Urdu language in North America.
