The Urdu Academy of North America pays tribute to Saleem Ahmed

The Urdu Academy of North America dedicated its March 19, 2023 literary event to the life and work of Saleem Ahmed.
The event was held at the Chandni Restaurant, Newark CA.
Qazi Habib was MC of the program who presented a well researched maqala on the work of Saleem Ahmed.
Entrepreneur Jawed Umerani chaired the event.
Tashie Zaheer, President of the Urdu Academy welcomed the guests. He thanked Chandni Restaurant’s owner, Syed Sarwat for extending his services for Urdu to host the monthly literary session. Tashei Zaheer encouraged the Urdu lovers residing in the SF Bay Area to attend the Urdu Academy events in person.
As usual a number of Urdu enthusiasts presented the poetry of Saleem Ahmed: Hatem Rani, Tasadduq Hussain Attari, Anjim Zishan, Irfan Siddiqui, Abdbus Sattar Ghazali, Mahmood Hasan, Zeba Rizvi, Zafar Afaq Ansari, Kehkashan Kifyat and Suraiya Jabeen.
Sulekha Chaudhuri and Dr. Priya, perhaps stole the show with their melodious presentations.
Saleem Ahmed was born on November 27, 1927 in Barabanki, Utter Pradesh.
Saleem Ahmad was one of the most unconventional poets who had inspired many by his extraordinary and incredible creativity.
He was also a noted critic of Urdu literature.
His collection of poetry, Bayaz, Ikai, Charag-i-Neem Shab and Mashriq, have been published collectively as Kulliyaat-e-Saleem Ahmed.
He was also a film and tv drama producer and scriptwriter, and a columnist in major Urdu newspapers.
His mentor was Mohammed Hasan Askari.
Saleem Ahmed died at the age 55, on September 1, 1983 in Karachi.
