The Urdu Academy of North America hosted mini mushaera on May 19, 2019. The event was held at the Pakistan American Community Center in Milpitas, CA. Well-known Urdu poet and literary critique Jazib Qureshi was president of the mini mushaera.
Classical Singer and senior member of Urdu Academy, Nagesh Avadhani was MC of the event.
Prominent writer and poet, Jazib Qureshi, was president of the literary event.
Arshad Rashid, a senior member of Urdu Academy, welcomed the audience on behalf of the Academy
The mini mushaera began with a Hamd by Nagesh Avadhani in his melodious voice.
Bano Vijapura was next. She presented few Qitats and ghazals.
Bano Vijapura is an established poetess in Gujrai language but she is also interested in Urdu poetry. Bano was born in Mahuva, Gujarat India. Writing poems was her hobby from childhood. During college years her poems were published in Saurashtra Samachar. She came to US in 1977. She is also write short stories. One of her story 'Mercedes" was published in Akhand Anand. Her third book was published in 2016 which is a novel 'Uchhalta sagarna mauni "
Besides this Bano is involved with "The Message Dailey" as a foreign editor, USA. She is a member of 'Bethak' in Bay Area since last 4 years. They organize Gujarati gazal programs and workshops. Khalid Iqbal Usmani was next to present his poetry as well as prose writings. Usmani is engineer by profession. His father was a prominent poet, Zaheer Ahmed Taj. Usmani is mostly interested in prose. His dramas were broadcast by Radio Pakistan Karachi and Radio Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Mohammad Shahid Siddiqui was next to present his poetry. Dr. Siddiqui is a retired tax consultant. He is the author of books on economy. He got awards for his humanitarian services in India and Canada.
Irfan Ahmed was next to recite poetry. Irfan Ahmed, from Maharashra, India, was a consultant to Iron & Steel industry in India.
Lubna Manzar was next to amuse the audience with her poetry. She is author of “Sooraj aur Sumandar” launched in Karacchi in November 2016.
Salman Siddique was next to thrilled the audience his poems. He belongs to Lahore. Dhayaan main Gum and December main Mahabbat are popular collections of Salman’s poetry.
Mohammad Hamid Kamal Narvi, retired professor of Urdu at Islamia College Karachi, was next to recite his insightful poetry. He is a sahib-edeewan poet.
Noted poet and literary critique, Jazib Qureshi, thrilled the audience with his naat and other poetry. Jazib’s work spreaded over more than fifty years, which included his memorable prose writings, such as ‘Pehchaan’, Shinasai and Takhliqi Awaz.
His first collection of poetry appeared in 1983, and he was the author of eight poetry collections and ten books on prose and critical essays.
Named as Mohammad Sabir, later known as Jazib Qureshi, was born in Lucknow (India). He was only nine when his father died. The child worked for sometime at a workshop for a living, came over to Lahore in 1950, when he was ten and continued to work and learn, while devoted himself to teaching and column writing for newspapers.
A creative poet of modern times, Jazib is a well read person and not wedded to any particular ideological school. His scholarly knowledge of classics made his critical writings more effective.
It is said Jazib had carved out his own path in literature, with his commitment to culture, ‘literature and his creative zeal, patience and self confidence’.
